Ivar GiŠver was VISTA Professor from 1994 to 2004

Ivar GiŠver has been associated with the research project "The physics of porous media" under Statoil's direction since 1989. He became a VISTA Professor in 1994.

During his VISTA Professorship, Ivar GiŠver was Institute Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, while for three months of the year he was to conduct research at the University of Oslo and visit various VISTA teams in Norway.

Ivar GiŠver's research touches upon a variety of different disciplines. In terms of VISTA, his research has been particularly important in the priority area "Improved recovery", but has also had positive repercussions far beyond this. Ivar GiŠver's international standing and personal qualities have helped give the VISTA programme a high scientific profile and attract attention outside Norway too.

Ivar GiŠver won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1973. He was elected as a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in 1974.
